Vincent Van Gogh
A brush-painted VR experience
Vincent Van Gogh
A brush-painted VR experience
This team project from my fourth semester was the project work of the course VFX, Motion Design and included the creation of a VR Experience in Tilt Brush based on one of the most famous artists in our history
Created: June 2018
Client: University Project
Work: Concepting, Storyboarding, 3D Drawing
Conception
Our team, consisting of four people, had the ambitious idea from the beginning to incorporate as many facets as possible of the life of Vincent Van Gogh into the resulting VR experience. The conception phase of the project was an immense and extremely important part of our work.
First of all, based on a simple sketch of the future floor plan, we created a 360 degree visualization of the experience to get a first impression of the overall scenery.
We decided to divide the whole VR experience into four different sections or scenes. For each key scene we created a 3D visualization in
Blender
to define the style and mood in advance. The 3D models we created for this purpose were later used as a template for our
Tilt Brush project.
To ensure that the VR Experience follows a common thread and tells a story like a movie, we also created our own storyboard. Each of our four scenes has been described here in detail and is provided with numerous details and eastereggs.
Realization
For the actual implementation of the VR landscape we worked with the application Tilt Brush from Google on the Oculus Rift. Tilt Brush is a drawing software that allows you to use the controllers of the Rift as brushes and erasers to place three-dimensional brush strokes around you.
Besides the unfortunately somewhat shaky recording of the finished VR Experience, here are a few more screenshots, which were created and exported directly in Tilt Brush.
Last but not least I would like to use the space here to say thank you to my team for the successful teamwork.
